If you are just starting

There is nothing you need to know before you call.

Most families reach us with no idea where to begin, and that is normal. The first conversation is free. We will talk through what you have in mind, tell you what the cemetery will allow, and see whether we can help. Nothing is decided that day.

If it is easier to come and stand in front of the stones, all three of our stores are open for that. Call the one nearest you and we will make sure someone is there.

Memorial options

Four ways families most often choose to mark a grave.

Every one of them is customized. Shape, colour, carving and lettering are yours to decide, and you will see a proof before anything is cut.

Upright headstones

A popular choice for families searching for ways to honor a loved one. They come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors.

  • A popular choice for families wanting something traditional
  • More customization options, including monument shape
  • Allow for a larger, custom design
  • Easily seen from a distance

Slant memorials

A memorial option that falls between a flat marker and a traditional upright headstone. Like flat markers they are one piece, but they sit up off the ground.

  • Come in single and companion sizes
  • More room for engraving than traditional flat markers
  • Often times more economical than a traditional upright headstone
  • Can be added to a base for additional height off the ground

Flat markers

Sometimes referred to as grave markers. A simple yet elegant way to honor the memory of your loved one, in single and companion sizes.

  • Most economical memorial type
  • Typically flat and placed in the ground at lawn level
  • Allow for a small, custom design
  • Not easily seen from a distance

Memorial benches

Popular among families looking for something different. Like upright monuments, benches can be customized in design and color.

  • Allows friends and family to sit when visiting
  • Can be customized in shape, color and size
  • Allow for multiple surfaces to be engraved
  • Can also hold cremains as a cremation memorial

What we handle

We bring it to the cemetery and set it ourselves.

We will transport and install your memorial at the cemetery, so that you do not have to worry about finding an installer, or about your memorial being damaged by a third party shipping company.

It is the part of this that families are least prepared for, and it is the part where a stone is most easily broken. So we do not hand it to anybody else.

We work in granite, marble and bronze, for Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, and in Independence, Parsons, Chanute, Bartlesville, or anywhere in between.

What happens

Four steps, and none of them are rushed.

1

Call, or come in

The first consultation is free. Tell us the cemetery, and roughly what you are picturing. If you are not picturing anything yet, that is fine too. We will show you what is possible and what that cemetery allows.

2

We design it with you

Once you place your order, we work with you and your family on the design. Shape, granite colour, lettering, carving, emblems. Anything that mattered to them can go on the stone.

3

You approve a final proof

You see a final proof and you approve it before any carving begins. Nothing goes into production until you have said yes to exactly how it will look.

4

We deliver and set it

We transport the memorial to the cemetery and install it. You do not need to find an installer, arrange shipping, or be there when it happens, though you are welcome to be.

Granite

These are the colours families choose most often.

Photographs never quite tell you what a stone looks like in daylight. Come and see the samples in person if you can, or ask us to send more.

Dark Red is also available. If you have seen a colour in the cemetery and do not know its name, photograph it and send it to us. We will tell you what it is.

Something different

A bench, for the people who visit.

Some families do not want to stand. A memorial bench gives you somewhere to sit when you visit, and it carries the same carving and lettering as any other memorial, on more than one surface.

Benches can be customized in shape, colour and size. They can also be made to hold cremains, so the bench itself becomes the memorial.

What our families are saying

In their words, not ours.

Barnes did a great job on my fathers Memorial and I appreciate it so much. They were so kind and took their time to listen to what we wanted. I appreciate everything so much and they took care of us. Thank you so much Jack!!

Wynette Irving

Losing my husband was very unexpected and I really was not ready to pick out a headstone, but Lori at Barnes Monuments was so helpful and made this process so much better. My mind was all over the place and never once did I feel rushed on picking out the perfect stone or artwork. The finished stone was even better than I had imagined.

Jaime Grant

Excellent design and stone quality. Very efficient customer service. We are very pleased with the personalized design and care given for our mothers gravestone.

Questions families ask

The things nobody tells you.

Do you handle the cemetery installation?

Yes. We will transport and install your memorial at the cemetery so that you do not have to worry about finding an installer, or about your memorial being damaged via third party shipping companies.

Will I get to see a design before anything is made?

Yes. Once you place your order we work with you and your family to create a memorial design that you approve before we move your order into production. You will see a final proof that you approve before any carving begins.

Can you put a photograph on the headstone?

Yes. We offer porcelain pictures for all memorial types, as well as laser engraved portraits on black granite memorials.

Do you have payment plans?

Yes. We have a few ways to pay, depending on what would be the best way for you and your family. Ask us when you call and we will explain the options rather than quoting you something that does not fit.

What does a memorial cost?

It depends on the type, the size the cemetery allows, the granite colour, and how much carving and lettering it carries. An upright with a large custom design is not the same as a flat marker, and neither is wrong.

Tell us roughly what you have in mind and we will give you a real figure. The first consultation is free and there is no obligation attached to it.

How long will it take?

Ask us when you call and we will tell you honestly, based on what you have chosen and what is available. We would rather give you a real date for your stone than a general one that turns out to be wrong.

Which cemeteries do you serve?

Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, and Independence, Parsons, Chanute, Bartlesville, or anywhere in between. If your cemetery is not on that list, call and ask. It very likely is not a problem.

Can I design something myself first?

If it helps you think, yes. We have an online designer you can use to try shapes and layouts before you speak to anyone. Nothing you make there is an order, and most families still prefer to sit down with us.
